The Entrepreneur: A Thrill Seeker

Entrepreneurs and world travelers have commonality.  We both love the thrill of the adventure.  What if we did this?  What if we tried something new?  Wonder what would happen if we did that?

Traveling the world is all about new experiences, new scenery, new cultures, new food and the thrill of the unknown.  Being an entrepreneur holds the same excitement of new challenges, new thrills and the inevitable “what’s next?”

You can’t do that

When I decided to hike the Inca trail in Peru, my sons vehemently objected.  “Mom, you can’t do that with your back.  You have no experience backpacking.  It will be a disaster.”

It sounded amazingly similar to the comments from fellow business owners when I started my first company.  “You’ll go broke.  That’s a dumb idea.  You have no experience owning a business or in property management.  Give it up.”

Hiking the Inca trail was my birthday treat for my 55th birthday.  It was quite an adventure and an outstanding success.  Zero regrets.

Mountain Castles property management was a roller coaster ride of challenges and thrills.  At one point, I took a two week tour of the castles of Germany, Austria and Bavaria.  Various castle pictures from that trip graced the front cover of my sales brochures for years.

Turn your can’t into “How can I”

My theme song has always been “Don’t tell me I can’t. Don’t tell me I won’t and don’t tell me I’m past my prime.”

Apply that attitude to your business and your marketing.  You will be amazed what doors will open.  Eric Wagner’s “7 Traits of Incredibly Successful Entrepreneurs” emphasized that abounding curiosity is an essential characteristic of successful entrepreneurs.   Entrepreneurs are bursting with creativity and the clarity of their vision.  It’s not a matter of always knowing exactly how to achieve the objective.  It is the thrill of the quest and the tenacity to persevere,

“The number one trait you find in all successful entrepreneurs is tenacity.  Just the sheer will to keep going, even when things look impossible.”  Dino Vendetti

Attitude of Success

Apply that abounding curiosity and tenacity to marketing.  What if you applied the personal touch to your marketing?  My castle photographs were not Ansel Adams quality, but they were real, personal and just high enough resolution that a top quality printer like PrintPlace.com could print an outstanding brochure cover with.

Adding the personal touch to your brochure forms a deeper personal connection between your company and your customer.  Marketing is about creating a connection, a relationship with your potential customer.  People buy from those they know, like and trust.  Personalize the marketing and you deepen the connection.

Tying the shared experience of travels, adventures and your company brochure together creates conversation and connection.  Make 2013 an outstanding year full of curiosity, tenacity and marketing success.
